Camp Counselor

Mountain Kids is a 14 year-old outdoor education and adventure program for children ages 5-12, connecting kids with nature, themselves, and each other through personal challenge, learning and fun. 

We are seeking outdoor educators who are responsible, outgoing and fun.  Applicants must love working with children and care about their development. Applicants are flexible team players, have excellent judgment, problem-solving skills, are outdoor enthusiasts and love sharing this joy with children.

We offer a low adult:child ratio for a quality experience in nature and as a group. Weekly staff meetings and a supportive environment aim to create a cohesive and harmonious staff team where everyone can learn and grow. 

Camp activities are experiential in nature and include hiking, games, team building activities, nature awareness games, arts and crafts, and imaginative play.  

The ideal candidates meet the following criteria: 

  • Experienced outdoors person with knowledge of mountain hazards &  preparedness, or willingness to learn
  • Experience with and love of working with children, high energy level, excellent group management skills
  • Strong communication and organization skills
  • Team player – able to implement camp curriculum alone or with others
  • Excellent problem solving skills, flexibility, and willingness to take initiative 
  • Excellent driving record, able to drive a 15-passenger van (25 and older)
  • Excellent judgment and concern for safety of children
  • Counselors must have their own housing, transportation to and from camp

Winter/Spring 2024

  • Weekly Fridays 12:30-5:30
  • Six Thursdays 9:30-2 (School Field Trips)

Summer Camp (Full Time)

  • May 20-August 19, 2024, with possible extension beyond summer
  • Hours: Full Time –  Monday-Friday, 8:30 am-4:30pm (40 hours/week)

Hotel Guide (Part Time)

  • Dates of Employment: May 20-Aug 31, 2024
  • Hours: Thursday, Friday, Saturday: 9:30-3:30

Mountain Kids! Staff Training– May 20-24, 2024. 

Minimum Qualifications to meet upon acceptance:

  • Wilderness First Aid/CPR Training
  • Excellent driving record (25+, drivers only)
  • Background check

Compensation and Benefits: $17-22/hour
