During this week we will explore survival basics: fire, water, shelters, cordage, and first aid. We will use local plants for a healing salve for our own mini-survival kits, and to make cordage. We will orient to the four directions and look for landmarks as we hike and explore wild places. We will learn map reading skills, modern and primitive fire making techniques (hand drill & bow drill) with an emphasis on safety and reverence for our forests. We will find and purify water using a variety of techniques for our own bottles. We will find time run and play, and time to sit quietly and enjoy the sounds of nature.
Older Campers (9-12) will build shelters to sleep in on a Wednesday night campout.
